Electric Owl Works Announce Relocation Plans
ELECTRIC OWL WORKS, LLC ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF MYRTLE BANK,
COUNTRY ESTATE OF THE LATE DR. EDWIN A. MIRAND
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Buffalo, NY, USA, 8 November 2018 – Electric Owl Works, LLC (EOW) has announced the purchase of Myrtle Bank, the former country home of the late Dr. Edwin A. Mirand, internationally renowned cancer research scientist, educator, and long time Roswell Park Cancer Institute employee. EOW expects to start migrating residential recording studio operations from its current East Emery Road location to the new facility, located just two miles away, beginning mid November 2018.
Myrtle Bank resides on several acres of secluded, wooded hillside at Hunters Creek and Goodleberg Roads in South Wales, NY. Originally built as a hunting cabin in the 1940s, Dr. Mirand acquired the property in the 1950s and made substantial improvements over the decades, reshaping it into an architectural gem reminiscent of Japanese and Frank Lloyd Wright designs.
Throughout his life, Dr. Mirand hosted numerous events at Myrtle Bank where he entertained family, colleagues, and dignitaries surrounded by his substantial collection of art, antiques, and furniture that he acquired during his world travels. The home served as a celebration of art, culture, learning, and also provided an open, welcoming environment for members of the gay community.
“The Mirand Family is excited for you and your family to begin your first day as owners,” said John P. Mirand, family spokesperson and nephew of the late Dr. Mirand. “We wish you much happiness and many years of joy in your new home and studio. Best wishes always and cherish our uncle’s family home we grew up in for more than 60 years. It’s your beautiful home now to create your special memories.”
“As I walked down the drive and the scenery unfolded before me with the house nestled in the hillside, I felt an immediate connection,” said Julie J. Guyse, EOW President and CFO. “Once inside, living murals greeted me as the windows brought in the picturesque landscape in every room which then melted into the wooded hillside upon entering the solariums. Meeting the family, sharing their memories and our future plans, has been an unexpected and delightful treat.”
“Julie and I were fortunate to be invited to Myrtle Bank several years ago,” said Charles H. Root, III, EOW VP and Chief Engineer. “I was overwhelmed on my first visit by the beauty of the place. As I walked through the home, I was amazed how the rooms were so similar to recording spaces I admire like Studios La Fabrique in France, Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey, Dirt Floor Recording in Connecticut, and Lost Ark Studio in San Diego. We are excited that our mission to create a creative and educational retreat for songwriters, producers, and recording artists dovetails with Dr. Mirand’s philosophy and the environment he spent decades nurturing.”
